How to use the revel8 Reporter App

Learn how to report suspicious communications and recognize security simulations directly within the app to keep your organization safe

The App Reporting feature allows you to quickly and securely report suspicious SMS, or calls to your organisation’s Security Operations Center (SOC).

🚀 1: Launch the revel8 Reporter

  • Launch the revel8 Reporter app on your mobile device

  • Tap Get Started to begin the setup process

📞 2: Grant Notification Permissions

The app will request permission to send notifications about reports and missed simulations. Select your preferred notification option:

  • Allow: Receive all notifications immediately

  • Allow in Scheduled Summary: Receive notifications in daily summaries

  • Don't Allow: No notifications (not recommended)

  • Tap Continue to proceed

⚙️ 3: Enable Call/Reporting Extensions

3.1 Enable Reporting Extension:

The app requires enabling the iOS reporting extension to report suspicious calls and SMS. Follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device

  2. Navigate to: Apps > Phone > SMS/Call Reporting

  3. Select revel8 Reporter from the list

3.2 Enable Call Blocking Extension:

The app requires enabling the iOS call blocking & identifiaction extension to be able to block or warn users about suspicious calls and SMS.

Quick setup

  1. Open the Settings on the revel8 Reporter App

  2. Click on Open iOS Settings

Or set it up manually:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device

  2. Navigate to: Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification

  3. Select revel8 Reporter from the list

📱 4. Reporting Suspicious Calls and SMS/MMS

4.1 Report Suspicious Calls:

  1. Open the Phone app

  2. Go to the Recents list

  3. Swipe left on an item and tap Report or tap the hand symbol ✋

4.2 Report Suspicious SMS/MMS:

  1. Open the Messages app

  2. Go to a conversation

  3. Long press the message and tap More...

  4. Tap the Report Message button at the bottom

Tap Finish to complete the initial setup

❗ 5: Access Main Features

  • After setup, you'll land on the Reports screen

  • Initial state will show Nothing reported yet

  • This screen will display all your submitted reports once you start reporting suspicious communications

Access the main menu (hamburger icon ☰) to navigate between sections:

  • Overview: Dashboard with report statistics

  • Manual Reporting: Submit reports manually

  • Instructions: Review reporting guidelines anytime

  • Settings: Manage app preferences and notification settings

  • Log Out: Sign out of your account (shows current user)

✍️ 6: Manual Reporting within the App

If you prefer to report manually or need to report a communication that's not in your recent list:

6.1 Manual SMS Reports:

  1. Select Channel: Tap SMS

  2. Enter Phone Number: Input the suspicious sender's number (e.g., +49 123 4567890)

  3. Select Received at: Choose the date and exact time when you received the message

  4. Tap Report Message

6.2 Manual Call Reports:

  1. Select Channel: Tap Call

  2. Enter Phone Number: Input the suspicious caller's number

  3. Select Received at: Choose the date and time of the call

  4. Tap Report Call

⚠️ 7: Important Notes

  • Extension Required: The iOS SMS/Call Reporting extension must be enabled for automatic reporting functionality - if reports aren't submitting, verify the revel8 Reporter extension is selected in iOS Settings

  • Privacy: All reports are submitted securely to help improve security awareness training

  • Notifications: Check that notification permissions are granted for real-time alerts, they can also be modified later in iOS Settings

  • Internet connection: Ensure you have an active internet connection for report submission
